Debby McClatchy, Tom Saunders, Brad Leftwich and Alice Gerrard. Definitely a night of old-time music to remember from these fine musicians.
Debby’s solo performance of frailing banjo, singing, wit and charm kept her audience amused, charmed and lifted to another world of old-time memories, mountains and log cabins one can only dream about. Tom, Brad and Alice as they are generally known together, are renowned for their traditional American music and talents. Their vocal harmonies were exceptional and from the free and easy style, audience participation was encouraged and enjoyed by all. Their performance of ‘Gum Tree Canoe’ was enjoyed so much that I’m quite sure the audience was floating along in the canoe along the Tombighee River with them! All of this and we were then treated to a finale of Debby flat-footing to a couple of old-time tunes which definitely left the audience breathless. (But not Debby!) Then finally a get-together of musicians as is a traditional finish in old-time and bluegrass alike with favourites including ‘Will The Circle Be Unbroken’. A fabulous ending to a fabulous evening. |
