Newsletter - April 2017

Updated
24 Mar 2017

Here we are then about to launch into the second quarter of the year and once again it’s fairly racing by. The first three months have been up to their usual excellent standard and have introduced several new acts to the club and have seen some memorable nights. April will be a shorter month due to our Good Friday closure and the remaining Fridays will see the return of some old friends, so without further ado………

…..Friday the 7th was to have been Harvey Andrews as you probably know, however Harvey has had to postpone on health grounds so instead we are extremely delighted to present everyone’s favourite French-Geordie, Flossie Malavialle. April 2014 was the last time we were entertained by Flossie! Yes three years ago if you can believe it! Flossie has now been living on these shores for many years and although she started her British life as a teacher she is now a full time singer and a delightful one at that. Expect standards, bluesy numbers, French songs….oh and just about anything in between, all accompanied by her sensitive playing on her beloved Gibson. Should be a night to remember……so don’t forget to be there.

Friday 14th the club will be closed as it’s Good Friday.

But Friday 21st will be another of our legendary Singers’ Nights. Don’t be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A great night is guaranteed!

Then finally for this month, on the 28th we will be hosting yet another prodigious talent from the North East in the form of Mr. Bob Fox. It’s now almost two years since Bob graced the stage at the Woodman so I’m sure you’ll agree it’s high time we welcomed him back! As I’ve said, Bob is from the north-east of England and his songs reflect the culture and humour of his homeland and he accompanies them all with stunning guitar playing which he makes look simply effortless. He has been performing and touring now for nigh on 40 years as a solo artiste and, from time-to-time, in various duos and bands, so you’d expect him to be quite good……….but that’s an understatement, he’s superb!

And that shallot as they say in Onion focus groups!! See ya next month……

Cheers

Rob
