Well hello again folkers! Its official, the festival season has begun for another year (Upton-upon-Severn), the birds are singing, the little lambs are moo-ing….(some of them are a bit confused - they’ll learn); and the Woodman has another month of marvelous music and merrymaking to present to you, beginning with…….

Union Jill on Friday 5th, remember them? Can you believe it….it’s been four years since Helen Turner and Sharon Winfield, better known to us as Union Jill, were last on at the club. If you were there you’ll remember it as a super night of well-crafted, self penned songs, superbly complemented by fine musicianship and haunting harmonies from the two Yorkshire lasses. We said at the time that they’d be back….well OK it’s taken a while but here they are, ready to sing their hearts out for you lucky Woodman people. Great stuff!

Then on Friday 12th we are again introducing two newcomers to the club in the forms of Paul Walker & Karen Pfeiffer…….well, not exactly newcomers as they have showcased before but this will be their first fully-fledged appearance as club guests. For the benefit of those of you who’ve not seen them before, Paul & Karen both have their individual styles which combine beautifully and, together with their light-hearted banter, they provide a truly memorable experience. Karen adds alto-recorder, tin whistle and percussive instruments to Paul’s skilful guitar playing. This is their 5th year of performance together and in their luggage they will proudly bring along their second album ‘Marble Town’. Welcome to the Woodman guys!

The 19th brings another of our legendary Singers’ Nights. Don’t be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A great night is guaranteed!

And finally on Friday 26th we are presenting the long awaited return of a band that we thought had disappeared, namely Risky Business. It’s excellent news that Risky Business are touring as a three piece band again and even better that we’ve got them to delight us at the club! We had an excellent night with two thirds of RB - namely Ken & Ruth Powell - about eighteen months ago but now that they have reformed as a three piece with Dave Walmisley (known to us through Other Roads), we should be in for a real treat. Wonderful vocalists, superb musicians…..what’s not to like?

And next month will be June and we can truly say ‘summer is a-comin’ in and winter’s gone away-o’, and we will of course be presenting another month of great music for you.

Cheers

Rob
