Well it's all over bar the shouting as me old Uncle Ethel - (strange
fella) - used to say. I never understood it then and still don’t. The
anticipation of Christmas Eve, the gluttony of Christmas Day and the
hangover of Boxing Day are all now behind us …..but, look what we’ve got
to look forward to? Well, yes, there’s the New Year celebrations of
course….. but I’m talking about the re-opening of The Woodman Folk Club
after our Christmas break!!! So we’re kicking off on….
……..Friday the 3rd with another of our legendary Singers’ Nights.
Don’t be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A great night is guaranteed!
Then on the 10th we welcome back The Eddy Morton Trio. Eddy has been at the club on many past occasions and in many different guises, from the Bushburys to enhancing Sunjay’s set, so it’ll be a real pleasure to have him entertain us tonight in this trio line-up. He will be joined on stage by Andy Jones, fiddler extraordinaire and Paul Hodson on keyboards I believe. Paul is a lecturer in music technology and also a well known producer who has worked with many international, high-profile artistes. He is also an ex-member of the Bushburys.
Then, on the 17th we are delighted to be hosting The John Richards Band. Almost a year to the day after their last visit we are delighted to be hosting The John Richards Band again. These days John’s band is a bit of a ‘moveable feast’ in that, you never know quite what you will get! He has scaled down operations from his regular band gigging days however I believe tonight we will be royally entertained by John, Emma Jones, Jim Sutton and Emily Sanders. John always puts on a good show in whatever guise so be sure to catch this one, it’ll be worth it!
Finally on Friday the 24th we have the very welcome return, for the umpteenth time, of our old friend Pete Kelly. Again it was, strangely enough, one year ago that he last appeared – we seem to be following a bit of a pattern here?? As I’ve said before, you all know Pete; everybody knows Pete….he’s world famous from Tipton to Arizona and he might even bring along his pony, although I doubt it after last year’s ‘accident’….the cleaners have never forgiven us! Pete has been delighting audiences for many years now with his relaxed, easy style and long may he continue. An excellent guitarist, gifted songwriter, friend and long time supporter of the club, and all round good egg. Welcome back Pete!
So a warm welcome return to the club awaits you all and a Happy New Year from all of us here at Woodman Towers.
We have a month of fun and frolics to look forward to on these dark winter Friday nights. Not a bad start I reckon, so here’s to 2020…..bring it on!!
