April is one of those very rare months where for a combination of reasons we have two singers’ nights scheduled, but we also have an incredible array of Woodman-worthy talent for your delectation and delight……...and a night off!! So without further ado let me tell you what’s on offer…..

….on Friday 1st we’ll be kicking off the month with another one of our superb Singers Nights so don’t be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed (in fact I’m reliably informed that there are only 2 slots left!), so do please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A great night is guaranteed!

Then on the 8th we have an unforgettable night in store with the ever popular Gerry Colvin Band. If you’ve never seen Gerry before then you’re in for a real treat – if you have, you’ll already know that this is not a night to pass up! The festival-goers amongst you will undoubtedly at some time have caught a show by Colvin Quarmby, a superb band, sadly now disbanded but which was fronted by the excitable and frenetic Gerry. A recent review described him thus: “If you want some idea of what Gerry Colvin is like live then imagine Lonnie Donegan on Prozac mixed in with the manic gesticulations of Lee Evans and the languid movements of Emo Philips.” You’ll understand when you see him!

On the 15th you can all go down the pub or just chill in front of the telly because we will be closed as its GOOD FRIDAY. (I hasten to add that it wasn’t so named just because we’re shut!!)

The 22nd will be the second one of our superb Singers Nights so once again don’t be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A great night is guaranteed!

Finally on the 29th of the month we are pleased to announce that we are yet again introducing another new act to the club namely Dave Ellis & Boo Howard. They are however by no means a new arrival on the scene. Dave & Boo are a London based acoustic duo with a musical partnership that began in 1979. Back in the ‘70’s Dave became a regular solo performer at well-known London venues such as the Marquee, the Roundhouse and the Lyceum. He was listed as “one of the 6 best guitarists in the world” by Melody Maker and opened for many big names of the day including The Edgar Broughton Band at the Rainbow and Rod Stewart and Status Quo at Reading Festival. Boo joined on bass and vocals and the two became a solid songwriting team. In the early 2000s Dave and Boo developed an acoustic act which returned them to their folk club roots. The songs are at the heart of it all, served by imaginative and stylish arrangements and by the singing and playing of two seasoned, wholly in-tune musicians.

And that’s about it but worry not….we have many more superb treats coming up in May, and the rest of the Spring and Summer to look forward to.

Cheers
