30 Dec 2023

Well, where did that go then? 2023 is virtually over and the New Year is just around the corner. Letís hope that, in many ways, itís a lot better than the last one was, what with pandemics, wars and other grim stuff going on!! Not at the Woodman of course because we have a packed and exciting programme coming up for the first half of 2024 featuring many of your favourite artists, and to launch the year January will commence withÖ

ÖFriday 5th which will be the opening Singersí Night of the year so as usual get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited However, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry either by phone or email - contact details are on the home page.

Please note that if you have pre-booked a spot you need to be at the club before 8:00 to confirm, or the slot may be re-allocated.

Now, before we move on to listing the January guest nights, the more astute of you may have noticed that from this month onwards the difference between the members admission price and the non-members admission price has increased from £1.00 to £2.00 therefore making it even more sensible to become a member. Just ask Deb on the door when you next visit and START SAVING THE POUNDS!

So, on to the glorious 12th when we will be featuring a welcome return of our home grown Stourbridge troubadour, Eddy Morton, complete with band! Eddy has appeared fairly regularly over many years now, primarily several appearances with the brilliant Bushburys (or The New Bushbury Mountain Daredevils if your memory stretches back that far), but also as a solo act and if my memory serves me right I believe heís also appeared with Sunjay in the past Ė but donít quote me on that. Tonight he is likely to be joined by renowned Shropshire fiddler Andy Jones and probably Paul Hodson on keyboards and squeezebox. A first rate show is guaranteed in any event.

On the 19th we will be presenting another of our favourite Woodman regulars namely The John Richards Band. Itís been just a year almost to the day since they last appeared with us and we welcome them back with open arms. The current line up of the band alongside John will be Jim Sutton, Emma Jones and Julia Disney. John always puts on a good show in whatever guise so be sure to catch this one, itíll be worth it! The band will also have a brand new CD, 'Hard Times & Heroes', which will certainly be available to purchase from the merchandise table, along with lots of earlier stuff. So great to have such wonderful local talent at our disposal and tonight will surely be a delight!

Then the 26th will see our old friend Will Morgan make a welcome return to the Woodman stage. Again it was just about a year ago that Will last appeared at the club. A leg-end in his own lunchtime is Will, a master of the witty retort and comic song and a wonderful interpreter of the Jake Thakray catalogue most of which are funny lyrically anyway, but Will has the ability to add his own touch and his anecdotes just increase the hilarity. One of the organising team and resident performers at Brewood Folk Club, Will also performs traditional songs, monologues and tall stories all of which adds up to a great evening from a great entertainer, and tonight he will be joined (as indeed he was last year) by Ian Dempsey Robins on bass and occasionally squeezebox. Mirth, merriment and melodic musicality will abound!

And that, my friends, concludes the line up for our opening month of 2024 and pretty impressive it is too!

Cheers, Happy New Year one and all, and look after yourselves.
