Well, here we all are again, Summer has a’cominin and a’buggeredoffagin
.…. several festivals have been visited, many pints quaffed and strums
strummed, and before ye know it it’s Woodman opening time again, and once
again we have an exciting line-up for you this September to kick-start the
year off, albeit a slightly later start than in some years, so fewer
guests to tell you about, but here goes: Friday 13th September will be the first one of our legendary Singers’ Nights. Don’t be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A great night is guaranteed! Also it will be membership renewal night: renewal is now £6.00 BUT you now save a £2.00 on every guest night at the club. You know it makes sense! Please note that if you have pre-booked a spot you need to be at the club before 8:00 to confirm, or the slot may be re-allocated. On the following Friday (20th) we will be sublimely entertained by none other than Messrs. Bob Bignell, Mac Rawlins and John Connor collectively known as Fairfield, (or actually Fairfield Revisited to be strictly accurate). This will be a truly momentous occasion! The old, (I use the word cautiously), Fairfield back together is an extremely rare event and tonight we are proud to present them to the club audience, many of whom may not have seen them before in this line up except possibly a snippet at a previous Christmas show. Bob, Mac and John delighted audiences for years before circumstances prevented them from regular performances, so it's great to see them back together tonight! Friday 27th, Well tonight should be an interesting one as it's not often we feature a night with not one, but two guest artistes. The Crag Band have been around for 30 years believe it or not AND The Woodman folk club was the first club they ever performed at. That was back in the days of the old club of course and in fact it has been many, many years since they have entertained us with their eclectic mixture of music produced by the five excellent musicians. The band are Karen on vocals and several instruments, Sandy on vocals and blowy things, Kevin on upright bass, Barry on vocals and various strings and the newest member, Nicky on vocals and keyboards. Then there’s Dave Love, who himself was once a member of the Crag band and needs no introduction at all! However, it's only polite to tell you a bit about him. Dave is a much respected local singer/songwriter and has played the Woodman many times in the past, so it's just brilliant to welcome him back. He has probably got the most hilariously twisted outlook on life possible and his quirky songs reflect this brilliantly. They are mainly funny renditions of the human condition, but several small animals may also feature from time to time. All of Dave's songs are cleverly written, so look out for the not so obvious double entendres and mystery titters hiding in his delivery. Oh and watch out for his quick-fire sense of fun, he shoots from the hip with deadly accuracy!! A short month, but a good’n so come on down and enjoy yourselves! Tarrarabit, Rob x |
