(Review taken from Derry's Facebook Post) Tonight was an absolute joy. Jez Lowe showed us all why he is one of this country’s finest singer/songwriters’ and a master of live entertainment and also one of the busiest, most hard-working people on the folk scene today. Jez had the packed audience spellbound from the first note, through two superb sets and right up to the roars for “more” at the end. Each song rang out loud and clear, the story and the message resonating with the audience and the audience responding with absolute delight. The music and words were perfectly matched to each note, with subtle mood changes enhanced by the choice of, guitar, bouzouki, or mandolin. The accented vocal delivery was mistakenly Jez Lowe, but Jez Lowe at his very, very best. Superb! The courageous Mr Dick Woodhouse, strutted forth to go boldly where others fear to play! Yes, it must have been a bit daunting for a single voice and guitar act to open for a Folk legend, but Dick is yer man that can. And he did! Dick, provided us with a comprehensive collection of folk and contemporary gems, all much-loved and recalled from our formative folk heritage. Presenting the audience with intricate fingerstyle guitar, Dick displayed expert guitar picks, faultlessly delivered, and all accompanied by the voice of extensive experience. He is a clever chappy! MC Bryn, AKA Bryn Phillips, guided us skilfully through the timings and the rhyming’s, calling upon years of enthusiastic MC’ing to keep us all under control! Also, Giga-thanks to the Techy-up and Techy-down teams and last but definitely not least, thank you so much to the staff and regulars at The Ashwood Marina: Enjoy Yourself! Derry & Deb xx |
