(Review taken from Derry's Facebook Post) Firstly, our thanks go out to the magnificent Paul Downes for treating us to a great evening’s entertainment, all at extremely short notice! Paul’s superb Guitar mastery was showcased throughout the evening. The skilful riffs and powerful fingerstyle picks, were executed with pinpoint accuracy, awesome speed, and a deceptively easy demeanour that only experienced professionals achieve. Paul’s perfectly, easy vocal style is spot on and reminiscent of the classic folk revival era that is held in such high regard. Paul even sneaked in a few songs/tunes that were perfectly suited to, and aptly driven by the Banjo. What else did he play? Well, the audience of course. Paul is a master at bringing his audiences right into the set, making everyone feel part of it and that’s a rare skill. Awesome! Our thanks also go out to Annie Winter too. Annie came along with Paul to make sure he behaved himself, but she treated us all to some beautifully sung gems that perfectly accentuated the overall vocal ambiance of the duo, and added more than a bit of sparkle to evening. Nice one Annie. The courageous Mr Dick Woodhouse, strutted forth to go boldly where others fear to play! Yes, it must have been a bit daunting for a single voice and guitar act to open for a Folk guitar legend, but Dick is yer man that can. And he did! Dick, provided us with a comprehensive collection of folk and contemporary gems, all much-loved and recalled from our formative folk heritage. Presenting the audience with intricate fingerstyle guitar, Dick displayed expert guitar picks, faultlessly delivered, and all accompanied by the voice of extensive experience. He is a clever chappy! MC Bryn mastered the ceremonies in his usual professional style and kept everyone on an even keel. Thanks to Gary and John B, for the photos/AV and to the Techy-up/Techy-down team too.
