(Review taken from Derry's Facebook Post) Virginia Kettle’s Rolling Folk. There really aren’t enough superlative’s to describe the atmosphere, musicianship, arrangements, songwriting, and performance VKRF delivered to an awe inspired audience. It was a packed house; all sat on the edge of their seat in anticipation of what was about to occur. From the very first note, musical bliss lit up the room, you could see it reflecting in the happy smiling faces of the delighted audience. This wasn’t just an outstanding delivery of a superb musical performance; it was a full-on show, entertainment with a capital “E.” Virginia is a natural show-person and fronted the band beautifully, and having written most of the tremendous songs, Virginia was brimming with exuberant confidence. The band too were faultless. Syncopated rhythm/lead guitar, excellent violin, and viola riffs, driving yet thoughtful percussion, harmonious bass, and marvellous mandolin; all served to complement Virginia’s enthralling, unique vocal expressions. Virginia Kettle’s Rolling Folk. Go and see them! Opening for the guests were our very-own super duo, Velvet Green, (Sue and Paul Matthews). Bravely battling a recent lurgy, Sue still managed to produce superb vocals, even in the highest register. Paul sang, picked, and strummed like a true professional. Treating us to some excellent self-penned material and the occasional cover, Velvet Green were just a class act. Nice one. Thanks to MC Chris, for his skilful manipulation of the English language and flamboyant use of the cordless microphone. Thanks to Mr Gary, for the photography. Thanks to Mr John B for his videography. Thanks to the Techy-up and Techy-down teams for their formula-one type synchronicity and speed. Last but definitely not least, thanks to the staff and customers of the Ashwood Marina clubhouse, for all their love and hard work. Enjoy Yourself! Derry & Deb xx |
