‘Lintel’ is a duo comprising John Hoare (guitar and vocals) and his wife, Carol (keyboard and vocals). John and Carol first wandered into The Woodman on Friday, February 13th 2015. Having returned from a winter sun holiday the day before, they were suffering ‘post-holiday blues’ and randomly selected The Woodman in search of some live music. It proved to be a very fortuitous decision, and they have been Friday night regulars ever since. When John, rather nervously, took the stage at a singers’ night shortly afterwards, it had been almost forty years since he had last performed in public, at the college folk club he had been running. John initially joined the list of resident singers at the club as a solo performer, relying heavily on the work of his musical hero, Ralph McTell. As his confidence grew, he expanded his repertoire and began writing his own material, culminating in a CD of his own songs, ‘The Tin Man’. These days, John and Carol perform as a duo and are currently writing material for their first ‘Lintel’ CD.
