Blimey!! Where did that month go then……?
In the blink of an eye November is upon us and once again we have a new list of
talents to peruse, all of them new to the Woodman, so without further ado let me
tell you all about what we have in store………
On Friday 7th we will be treated to the wonderful Ranagri, a four piece band
from London with a distinct Irish/Celtic flavour to their sound. They consist of
Donal on vocals and guitar, Eliza on whistles/flutes, Jean on electric harp and
Tad on bouzouki and bodhran. Quality contemporary songwriting enhanced by
virtuosic instrumentals, vibrant rhythms and haunting vocals, all interlaced
with vivid storytelling. Sounds like our kind of night to me!
Then on the 14th we welcome the enigma that is Stanley Accrington. Stanley
emerged from the dark days of the ‘70’s and has been terrorizing audiences ever
since! He performs some silly, some VERY silly and just occasionally some
serious stuff, in the forms of poems, songs or pastiches, all over the UK and
beyond. Variously described as ‘a leg-end in his own trousers’ – ‘often with
much flares’ and other descriptions too rude to mention! A visit to his website
is a must, if only to look at the anagram section!!
(Oh, and by the way – rumour has it that it might just be our esteemed
organiser/sound man’s birthday tonight – but don’t tell him I told ya!)
On the 21st and again newcomers to the club we have The Tony Burt Band. Tony is
a local guy who defected across the borders to Bromyard a few years back and has
since made a big impression on the local music scene, both in the town and in
the surrounding villages; see Bromyard Sessions website. His trio comprises Tony
on guitar, mandola and vocals plus Allyson Craigan on violin and John Davis on
bass. Expect a night of many excellent self-penned songs and a few covers of
modern folk standards. On a personal note, it will be good to see Tony again as
I played alongside him for several years in Tommy Dempsey’s band a few years
ago.
Finally on Friday the 28th we have another Singers’ Night. Don’t be
disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do please
contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a
maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A
great night is guaranteed!
As you can see – we’ve done it again folks so look forward to seeing you all.
Cheers
Rob
