Wow!! What a month April has been at the club….simply stunning
entertainment.
Our singers night, as ever, was a huge success and to follow that with the last
two weeks of Gary Edward Jones and then Red Moon Road was just mesmerizing! You
can be assured that at some time in the future, both of these class acts will be
back to enthral us all again.
Onwards and upwards....it’s almost May and I need to tell you what’s on offer
for the 5 (yes 5) club nights this month, you lucky Woodman folker's you, so
here goes:-
Friday May 1st opens the month with another of our legendary Singers’ Nights.
Don’t be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do
please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we
have a maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on
display. A great night is guaranteed!
On Friday 8th we welcome back the legendary Bob Fox. A regular visitor to the
club although it’s been a little while since we last enjoyed him, so this
promises to be another special night. Bob is from the north east of England and
his songs reflect the culture and humour of his homeland and he accompanies them
all with stunning guitar playing which he makes look simply effortless. He has
been performing and touring now for nigh on 40 years, so you’d expect him to be
quite good……….but that’s an understatement, he’s superb!
Friday 15th now, and you could be forgiven for thinking that the club has
relocated to Geordie-land this month, for tonight we have yet another peerless
duo from the north east in the shapes of Jez Lowe & Kate Bramley. Jez has been a
fairly frequent visitor to the Woodman over the years, usually as a solo artist
but tonight he will be more than ably assisted by his partner, Kate Bramley and
as a duo they are brilliant. With a formidable range of stringed instruments
between them and beautiful vocals, you’re in for a treat.
Then on Friday 22nd we have the (very) long awaited return to the club of a real
folk icon, Keith Hancock. Its’ been twelve long years since Keith played at the
club! This is because in the early 2000’s Keith effectively stopped performing
on the world stage. He is now based in the Far East where he makes his living as
a musician but has only recently resumed touring so we are thrilled he’s agreed
to be our guest. Keith’s live show is a mixture of musical genres all
accompanied by his percussive melodeon style. His voice is as strong as ever and
his humour still as sharp!
Finally Friday 29th and we have another of our legendary Singers’ Nights. Don’t
be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do please
contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a
maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A
great night is guaranteed!
How’s that for a bumper month of fun ‘n frolics down at the marina!!
Hope to see some of you there and cheers for now,
Rob
