Well May has bin ‘n gone an’ day we have sum fun?
An’ now it’s almost June an’ we’m hopin’ for sum sun,
We kick orf with Pete Boddis an’ he’s always a good loff,
Then there’s other stuff to tell yer abaht, so ‘ang on tight, we’m off…….
(With apologies to Black Country bards one and all)!
..yes on Friday June 5th our old friend and Woodman stalwart Pete Boddis takes
over the reins while our illustrious leaders and a few others of us are
moonlighting at the Wirral Festival. Pete will I’m sure entertain you
wonderfully in his own inimitable style, with a mix of self-penned material and
some tasteful selected covers, all accompanied by his relaxed, melodic guitar
picking. Pete always provides a great night and I’m sure this will live up to
his past triumphs.
On the 12th we are hosting Winter Wilson. Yet another first time visit to the
club for the aptly named pairing of Kip Winter & Dave Wilson who have been
delighting club and festival audiences for some time now with their masterful
renditions of beautiful songs, beautifully sung. Stunning harmonies,
thought-provoking and often challenging lyrics, all held together with a weird,
off-the-wall humour all of their own. Have seen and enjoyed them before in a
festival setting so really looking forward to welcoming them to the Woodman.
Then on the 19th we have the return of Mumbo Jumbo who have been absent from the
club for over two years believe it or not! Those of you with decent mental
capacities (!) will no doubt remember what a cracking night it was when they
last appeared. They’ve had a slight line-up change since the last show with Abby
Brant, the keyboard player now replaced by Phil Bond on keyboards and
squeeze-box. As usual Oliver Carpenter will be taking the lead vocals as well as
contributing percussion and trumpet accompaniments and with the multi-talented
Chris Lomas providing the bass line it should be another triumph for the club so
‘Be there or be.......well, not there’!!
And finally on the 26th we have another of our legendary Singers’ Nights. Don’t
be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do please
contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a
maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A
great night is guaranteed!
And, well……that’s all folks…..till next month!!
