Well its’ bin ‘n gone for another year, Christmas came and it
went,
It’s Boxing Day, the sales are on, but all yer money’s bin spent……………….except of
course for that little stash salted away at the back of yer wallet saved
specially for funding January’s Friday nights at the Woodman, and what a month
we have in store for you, consisting entirely of extremely talented LOCAL
artistes, and starting………
……..on Friday the 8th with another of our legendary Singers’ Nights.
Don’t be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do
please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we
have a maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on
display. A great night is guaranteed!
Then on the 15th we welcome a local trio that, in this line-up, are new to the
club. They are Mick Bisiker, Nigel ward & Chris Radley. Formerly known as the
band of Rack & Ruin and very well known on the Birmingham and West Midlands folk
circuit for many years, Mick and Nigel have appeared at the club before,
although not for a very long time, but never before as the full trio so yet
another first for us. With Mick on vocals, guitar and bouzouki, Nigel on guitar
and fiddle and Chris holding it together on bass we’re in for a cracking night
of self-penned material plus some standards and a few foot-tapping jigs ‘n reels
thrown in for good measure.
On Friday the 22nd we will be presenting another local legend in the form of
John Richards, this time appearing with his daughter Emma and Jim Sutton. As
many of you will know, John’s former band is no longer touring however this
smaller line up is no less exciting than we’ve been used to in the past. They
are all excellent musicians and vocalists and John is simply a master of the art
of songwriting, (you only have to look at the catalogue of top-flight artistes
that have recorded John’s songs to see that), so expect a lot from
tonight……..you’ll certainly get it!
Finally, on the 29th we are delighted to be hosting one of the Midlands’
funniest folk artistes in the form of Mr. Will Morgan. Can you believe that it’s
4 yes FOUR years since Will entertained us at the club!! In case you’ve not seen
Will before, be prepared for a VERY funny evening. One of the organising team
and resident performers at Brewood Folk Club, Will is a master at interpreting
the songs of Jake Thackray, most of which are funny lyrically anyway, but Will
has the ability to add his own touch and his anecdotes just increase the
hilarity. Added to this are his traditional songs, monologues and tall stories
which all add up to a great evening from a great entertainer.
Not a bad start I reckon, so here’s to 2016…..bring it on!!
Cheers
Rob
