I’m late, I’m late…for a very important…err….newsletter! Sorry about this but I’m blaming my cold! Must try harder as my old school reports habitually stated. Anyway, better late than never. September got us off to a cracking start to the new season and October promises to be no less entertaining so without further ado…… Tomorrow night, Friday 6th we are again presenting the fantastic Dan Walsh, banjo virtuoso, cracking singer and all round nice guy! This’ll be Dan’s third visit to the club which just proves how popular he’s been in previous ones. If I hadn’t just checked I wouldn’t have believed that it was way back in March 2015 he last appeared, it doesn’t seem anything like that. Undoubtedly one of the best banjo players in the UK, Dan plays a very varied mix of styles taking in folk, funk, bluegrass, jazz, rock and even a few Indian Raga’s thrown in for good measure. He really does make it sing in whatever way he likes! Welcome back Dan! Friday 13th is another fantastic Singers Night. You know the drill, get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited However, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry either by phone or email - contact details are on the home page. Spots are limited to 14 and always fill up very quickly. Please note that if you have pre-booked a spot you need to be at the club before 8:30 to confirm, or the slot may be re-allocated. Then on the 20th we have the long awaited return of Cathryn Craig & Brian Willoughby. Not seen at the club since 2012 so therefore way overdue. Brian and Cathryn have visited the club on many occasions and enthralled us with their delightfully laid back, easy style, enchanting vocals and Brian’s dazzling guitar virtuosity. Tonight will I’m sure be no exception. With Brian originally hailing from Northern Ireland and Cathryn from the US of A we can expect an evening of eclectic, largely self-penned music inspired by life on both sides of the pond. They are undoubtedly one of the folk genre’s best loved duos and we take pleasure in welcoming them back to the Woodman. And finally on the 27th we present the return of Jinski. This’ll be the third visit to the club from Newcastle based Dave Kennedy and Steve Wegrzynski who together form Jinski. They are both accomplished guitarists with strong, distinctive voices and prolific songwriting skill. They have recorded with many influential artistes on the modern folk scene including Karen Tweed, and Pete Challoner from the Old/New Rope String band and have supported artistes such as Joe Jackson, the Proclaimers, Lindisfarne and Kathryn Tickell. They gave us a great night’s entertainment back in February of 2015 so it’s high time for this very welcome return visit. And that about wraps up the month of October and I’m sure you’ll agree it’s pretty impressive wrapping too!! So, we look forward to seeing you whichever nights you can make…....come on down and enjoy yourselves, you know it makes sense. Cheers Rob |
