Hi Folks, Well, a couple of months in to the new season now and the nights are drawing in, it’s getting decidedly chillier round the Netherton nether regions, and it’ll soon be time for the annual mega-twinkly lightshow to commence on the approach to the festive season…...…..God forbid!! No new acts making their club debut this month but instead we have a superb selection of dear old club friends making their welcome returns to us. But before I tell you about the guests don’t forget that…… …..Friday November 4th will be another of our sensational Singers’ Nights. Don’t be disappointed, these singers’ nights are normally over-subscribed, so please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot. We have a maximum of 14 slots. Alternatively just come and enjoy the talent on display. A great night is guaranteed! ** PLEASE NOTE: Singers nights will now begin at 8.00pm until further notice ** Then on the 11th of the month we will be extremely delighted to welcome a return of an old club favourite and good friend, none other than Sunjay. March of 2019 was his last appearance at the club, the club where in fact he honed his craft and ‘cut his teeth’ as a performer, and an extremely gifted one at that. Our very own protégé has now developed into a seasoned performer and very professional artiste so this welcome return is somewhat overdue. A stunningly skilful blues inspired guitarist who has just gone from strength to strength and has made a name for himself far and wide on both the club and festival scene. It will be a great pleasure to have him back again tonight. The 18th brings us another real treat. We are proud to present the stunning musical talent that is Julia Porter, ably assisted by her accompanist Anthony John Clarke! Well, you know what I mean. It was back in April 2019 was when AJ last graced our stage, treating us to his finely honed act, now very much a mix of comedy and music, featuring his enormous catalogue of self-penned songs. Well, what can you say about AJC? Almost a club resident, he’s only missed a couple of years since the beginning of the century!! Now performing regularly with his wife Julia and I’d be very surprised if they’re not ably assisted here and there by one Derry Jones on bass! AJ loves coming to the club, we love having him to entertain us so it’s perfect symmetry. Seriously, he really is an excellent singer/songwriter, something of a raconteur and an all round nice fella. You’ve all seen him many times before but he never fails to deliver a superb nights entertainment so sit back and enjoy. Finally for another exciting month, on Friday the 25th we are once again very proud to present our old friends from Wales, Ruth & Ken Powell. A formidable pairing, two thirds of ‘Risky Business’ but also excellent as a duo, they have played the Woodman many times before and were last with us in October of last year. As well as being a masterful guitarist Ken is also a superb luthier and you can bet that tonight’s instruments will all be of his own construction. Ruth is just simply a brilliant vocalist and together they’ll put on a show that will leave you wanting more. And that’s about it but don’t forget to look out for the next thrilling instalment of the Woodman Newsletter, coming to a screen very near you…..in about a month! Cheers m’dears Rob x |
