Moving swiftly along we’ve almost arrived at the merry month of March
‘where the stormy winds do blow, me boys’….or summat like that anyway. And
just like the last couple of months we have a packed programme of delights
to inform you of, starting with…… ….Friday 3rd, which is another of our legendary Singers Nights. You must know the drill by now but as a memory jogger suffice to say get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited Alternatively, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry - contact details are on the home page. See the reminder below…. * PLEASE NOTE: Singers nights are now beginning at 8.00pm until further notice * Then on the 10th we have the second appearance this century of the legendary Huw Williams who entertained us brilliantly in November ’21 after a VERY long absence. But back in the day, (literally in the last century!!), Huw & Tony Williams were regular visitors to the Woodman and were always a very popular attraction. They performed their last tour together in 2001 and went their separate ways. Huw has subsequently carved out a very successful career for himself both as a solo performer and as manager of the Welsh folk supergroup, Calan. Huw is a prolific songwriter and is well known for such classics as ‘Rosemary’s Sister’ and ‘The Summer Before The War’ which we all know and love. Welcome back again Huw. Which brings us to the 17th when we are delighted once again to be able to present Fragile Hearts to you. Now firmly established as regular club guests and great friends, Steve Nesbitt and Helena Rosewell formed this contemporary folk duo a few years ago, and have already built a reputation as highly captivating performers. Steve’s songwriting, haunting melodies and accomplished guitar playing will tug at your heartstrings. Helena trained as a cellist at the Royal College of Music in London. Her enchanting cello playing brings a depth and beauty to the music that makes The Fragile Hearts a unique and engaging experience. Welcome back to the Woodman folks. On the 24th, our final guest for this month, (but not of course our final March date), is the brilliant songstress Liz Simcock, for what will be her fifth appearance with us believe it or not! Liz made her Woodman debut a back in 2014, went down a storm has consequently become a firm favourite at the club. Liz is a singer/songwriter who performs in folk and acoustic clubs mainly in and around the South East. In 1999 she featured on the Playpen Album of New Acoustic Music alongside Eliza Carthy, Billy Bragg, Eddi Reader and Kathryn Williams. Since then she has trodden an independent path, recording five albums and gaining a glowing reputation, but more recently she has toured with our old club favourite Clive Gregson, recreating the style and sound of Gregson & Collister and their debut CD, ‘Underwater Dancing’ was released in September 2017. An absolutely superb night is guaranteed. And last but by no means least the 31st will be yet another of our legendary Singers Nights. You definitely need to get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited. Alternatively, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry - contact details are on the home page. And don’t forget the revised timing! Well that’s it then, April next month so in the inimitable words of a certain Mr. John Richards, minstrel of this parish, ‘Bring on the Spring’…… Cheers folks, Rob x |
