Well hello again folkers, a little earlier than usual as I'll be away for a week or so, but anyway, it's official, the festival season has just begun for another year however if you’re not venturing out with your rucksack, tent and pegs just yet, the Woodman has another month of marvelous music, merrymaking and mirth to present to you, beginning with…….

….Friday 5th which will be yet another of our marvelous Singers Nights. You know the rules so make sure that you get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited However, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry either by phone or email - contact details are on the home page.

Well, you may remember that originally on Friday 12th we were supposed to be bringing you David Starr from the US of A, but sadly this proved impossible to arrange within his touring schedule, but worry not Woodmonsters because instead we have the brilliant Huw Williams rescheduled from March which was cancelled due to snow!! Back in the day, (literally in the last century!!), Huw & Tony Williams used to be regular visitors to the Woodman and were always a very popular attraction. They performed their last tour together in 2001 and went their separate ways. Huw has subsequently carved out a very successful career for himself both as a solo performer and as manager of the Welsh folk supergroup Calan and he appeared with us after a very long absence back in November of ’21. Huw is a prolific songwriter and is well known for such classics as ‘Rosemary’s Sister’ and ‘The Summer Before The War’ which we all know and love. Welcome back Huw.

The 19th gives us a chance to introduce yet another completely new act to the club in the form of Jackson Williams, a Country blues/Folk band from rural North Wales. Consisting of songwriting duo Deborah Jackson (Vocals), and Skeet Williams (Guitar, Bouzouki and Vocals), along with Sam Pritchard on Piano and Andy Cooper (Percussion). A live EP is earmarked for release in the Spring of 2023 which will be accompanied by a video release, followed by their second studio album shortly after. Expect aching ballads, upbeat folky stompers and Country Blues Grooves. Sounds like a promising new find! Some of you may recall that we’ve seen Skeet once before playing with Gary Edward Jones back in 2016.

And lastly for this month on the 26th we will take very great pleasure in introducing you to Crows. A hugely popular band and great exponents of the English folk tradition, Crows are back with a vengeance! With Mick Ryan on vocals, Paul Downes on guitar, banjo, mandolin and vocals, Dave Bordewey on violin, and Pete Harris on bouzouki, vocals, and other weird and wonderful stringed instruments they make a formidable rousing sound. Beware, they swap instruments between the band all the time! Crows are masters of their trade, delivering top-class songs. Mick’s powerful vocals and the bands overarching harmonies, form a wall of voices that are both melodic, powerful, and strong. Then there’s the music. This is performed and presented with limitless energy, pin-point precision, unsurpassed skill, and boundless talent. You can’t get a better folk band than Crows! Again we have of course been royally entertained by Mick and Paul many times in the past but this ensemble really raises the bar!

Well, whaddya know, summer is a’comin’ in, it’s June next month!! But for now that’s yer lot so from me it’s…

Cheers
