Well, it’ll soon be June….again….I have no idea why but the years just
seem to keep whizzing by so rapidly that I don’t know where I am most of
the time! But at least we still have most of the summer and autumn to look
forward to with all the festivals and holidays that those sunny seasons
bring…..not to mention all the delights that we still have in store for
you on Friday nights down at the marina, (5 fun-filled nights this month)
and the jolly month of June will commence…… …….on Friday 2nd with another of our legendary Singers Nights. You must know the drill by now but as a memory jogger suffice to say Get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited However, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry - contact details are on the home page. Please note that if you have pre-booked a spot you need to be at the club before 8:00 to confirm, or the slot may be re-allocated. Then on Friday 9th once again we are delighted to present everyone’s favourite nutcase Malcolm Jeffrey. Malcolm is certainly a very quirky performer but nonetheless very talented and always goes down a storm at the club, whether delivering comic songs à la Jake Thackray or Tom Lehrer or ballads brimming with delightful pathos. He describes himself thus: “a sort of classical guitarist; a frequenter of live music of vastly differing styles; an OK 3-ball juggler but pants with 4; a slow but accurate pencil sketcher; a collector of original Goon Show recordings; an occasional marquetry whittler and a bit of a draught beer quaffer”! Fits right in, don’t you think?? Which takes us to the 16th and tonight we welcome the return of Jinski. This’ll be the fourth visit to the club for Newcastle based Steve Wegrzynski who is now performing solo as Jinski. Steve is an accomplished guitarist with a strong, distinctive voice and prolific songwriting skill. Steve has recorded with many influential artists on the modern folk scene including Karen Tweed, and Pete Challoner from the Old/New Rope String band and has supported artists such as Joe Jackson, the Proclaimers, Lindisfarne and Kathryn Tickell. As a duo, they gave us a great night’s entertainment back in October of 2017, so it’ll be great to see Steve back and raring to go as a solo performer. Then on Friday 23rd we have the long awaited return of the fantastically talented Mumbo Jumbo. It’s been several years since Oliver and the band last played the Woodman but those of you with decent mental capacities (!) will no doubt remember what a cracking night it was. Now with a revised line-up of Oliver Carpenter, Chris Lomas and Richard Hughes they deliver eclectic, acoustic close harmony, piano based music, intimate and entertaining interaction with audiences and bring the fun back into live performance. They have two albums available ‘Life of Riley’ and ‘Sonic Gumbo’ and would be delighted to sign one for you in exchange for a little cash – but beware…….the unsigned ones are rarer!! Welcome back Ollie & Co. Finally for June, on the 30th and for the second time this month we have yet another of our legendary Singers Nights. Well that’s abaht it fer now but there’ll be a couple of things happening in early July before we break up for the summer so more about that in the next Newsletter. Cheers Rob x |
