Hi Folks, Well, that’s our reopening month almost over and done with and we can safely say that we’re now ensconsed in the ‘season of mists and mellow fruitfulness’. The nights are drawing in and the heating has begun to go back on…..well for the wealthier patrons of the club anyway! We’re still huddling around a candle in the scullery and wearing 10 layers of clothing……sniff…..sob…. However at least we can all be gathered in the warmth of the club once a week so without further preamble this is what you can expect this month…. Friday 6th will be another of our legendary Singers Nights. You must know the drill by now but as a memory jogger suffice to say get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited Alternatively, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry - contact details are on the home page. Please note that if you have pre-booked a spot you need to be at the club before 8:00 to confirm, or the slot may be re-allocated. Then on the 13th we are welcoming another brand new artist to the club, the extremely popular Colum Sands. Colum is a seasoned performer who has performed in over thirty countries around the world, confirming the universal appeal for the songs and stories with which he observes the minute, and often humorous details of life. He is regarded as a universal storyteller who draws on a long Irish tradition of poetic musicality to weave songs for the world. He has a huge back catalogue of CD's and books too in fact, which will be available at the merch table for sure. Will be an excellent night! On Friday 20th our old friend Mike Silver steps up to perform for us. We are of course always extremely delighted to welcome the return of an old club favourite and good friend, Mike Silver. This will in fact be Mike’s thirteenth visit to the club since the start of this century. After many years of hard work Mike became an ‘overnight’ success when the late Terry Wogan on Radio 2 played his song “A Matter of Pride” extensively. Mike is probably one of the most popular performers on the folk scene and his visits to The Woodman invariably become one of the highlights of the year. Naturally he'll have some excellent CD's on sale so you might want to check out the merchandise table. Finally for October, on the 27th we will be introducing yet another brand new act to the Woodman, namely Kelly’s Heroes. These guys have been around for eons but have somehow escaped the warm glow of the Woodman…until now! With a repertoire that encompasses fast and furious Celtic tunes and songs, gentle ballads, quality contemporary numbers as well as some original material, this Nottingham based band are one of the most sought after on the club, pub and festival circuit. Their rich sound provided by the accordion, powerful rhythm guitar and bodhran give a fullness that belies the number of people on stage. And that, as they say, is yer lot…..until next week of course when further musical delights await…….but for now…… Tarrarabit |
