Moving swiftly along we’ve almost arrived at the merry month of March ‘where the stormy winds do blow, me boys’….or summat like that anyway. And just like the last couple of months we have a packed programme of delights to inform you of starting with……

….Friday 1st which is another of our legendary Singers Nights. You must know the drill by now but as a memory jogger suffice to say get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited Alternatively, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry - contact details are on the home page. Please note that Singers nights now begin at 8.00pm until further notice.

Then on the 8th we have the debut appearance at the club for Charlie Dore. It's not unfair to mention that most members of the Woodman Folk Club have memories that stretch back at least as far as 1979, which was when tonight’s guest, Charlie Dore released 'Pilot Of The Airwaves' which went on to be a massive hit both here, in the US - and almost certainly in other countries too. Charlie will be appearing tonight accompanied by Julian Littman, guitarist with Steeleye Span, with a background in acting; musical theatre; Musical Direction as well as being a musician and composer in his own right, working with Charlie and Gerry Rafferty for many years. Although best known as a respected songwriter for others, Charlie enjoys a multi-faceted career that includes acting, comedy-improvisation, writing for radio and composition for film and TV as well as performing live with her band. First appearance at the Woodman and we certainly hope it won't be the last.

Which brings us to the 15th when once again we are delighted to welcome back a pair of very popular previous guests namely Vicki Swan and Jonny Dyer. Vicki and Jonny provide us with a quirky mix of songs, tunes and instruments! Their performances showcase new interpretations of old songs alongside original self penned tunes and new contemporary songs that are entirely at home in the tradition. Be entranced by the haunting nyckelharpa, amazed at the cow horn, (one of the worlds earliest communication devices), and meet some of the bagpipes that didn’t come from Scotland. Their evenings are packed with toe tapping tunes and songs of love, death, trains and dressing up, (not always at the same time), all presented with sparkling gentle humour, lots of smiles and skillful musicianship.

On the 22nd, we are delighted to present a further visit from our old, (I use the word advisedly!!), friend from bonny Wanlockhead, Dave Gibb. Dave has entertained us magnificently on many occasions in the past and I’m sure that this will be no exception. He describes himself as ‘a left-handed, balding, middle aged, songwriting folky from Scotland’s highest village’ and that’s a pretty good summing up really. If you’ve managed to catch him at a festival or on one of his previous visits to the club then you’ll know what you’re in for. If not come down and find out - you won’t be disappointed, I can guarantee it! Dave is an excellent singer songwriter, no mean guitar picker either and he’s sure to raise a chortle or two with his anecdotes of life on the road. You will no doubt be instructed to….. ‘SING’!

And that will complete the line up for March as the club will be closed on 29th as it’s Good Friday

Well that’s it then, April next month so in the inimitable words of a certain Mr. John Richards of this parish ‘Bring on the Spring’……

Cheers folks,

Rob x
