Well here we are again in the merry month of June and I have no idea why but the years just seem to keep flying by so rapidly that I don’t know where I am most of the time, (am I going up the stairs or am I going down comes to mind)! But at least we still have most of the summer and autumn to look forward to with all the festivals and holidays that those sunny seasons bring…..not to mention all the delights that we still have in store for you on Friday nights down at the marina and June will commence……

…..on Friday the 7th with the club debut appearance of Catch the Rain. Whilst they may be a new name to the Woodman audience and indeed they are a relatively new band, our friend Julia Disney is certainly no stranger to the club having been with us many times and in a variety of different guises in the past. As well as Julia (Vocals, Keyboard, Guitar, Violin), we have Odilia Mabrouk (Vocals, Violin, Guitar), Lisa Westwood (Vocals, Cajon, Djembe, Percussion, Kazoo) and Jon Hazlewood (Electric Bass, Guitar). Formed last year they have a folksy base but the music also embraces dreamy Laurel Canyon pop, classical touches, Eastern European shades and a wide spectrum of other influences. Catch The rain are a harmony-rich band, singing beautiful, melodic, quirky and fun original songs. In the eyes of one reviewer they are: "potentially the most exciting new local name since The Lost Notes".

Then on Friday 14th once again we are delighted to be hosting our great friends Winter Wilson. It's always with great pleasure that we welcome back our old friends and firm favourites, and Winter Wilson certainly fit into that category. Being regular club visitors over recent years Kip and Dave will be making their fifth Woodman appearance tonight having last delighted us back in November '21. You can reliably expect masterful renditions of beautiful songs, beautifully sung, stunning harmonies, thought-provoking and often challenging lyrics, all held together with an infectious, off-the-wall humour all of their own. They had a triumphant night with us last time they were here and we are delighted to welcome them back again.

This takes us to Friday the 21st when we are delighted to welcome back another Woodman favourite in the guise of Enda Kenny. This will be only his second appearance at the club but many of us have seen him over the years at festivals and in concert so he has certainly earned that accolade. Enda has been around the folk scene for a long time. Irish born but a resident of Australia since the 1980’s and although he has previously appeared over here, and even in this region, he somehow managed to escape the clutches of the Woodman……until May of 2018! After being semi-pro for many years he decided to take the plunge of being a full time performer in 2013. He is a multi-award winning singer/songwriter with a quirky sense of humour and an impressive catalogue of songs and we take great delight in welcoming him back to the club.

Finally for June, on the 28th we have yet another of our legendary Singers Nights. You must know the drill by now but as a memory jogger suffice to say Get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited However, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry - contact details are on the home page.

Please note that if you have pre-booked a spot you need to be at the club before 8:00 to confirm, or the slot may be re-allocated.

Well that’s abaht it fer now but there’ll be a couple of things happening in early July before we break up for the summer so more about that in the next Newsletter.

Cheers
