Hi folks, and before you know it, here we are, halfway through the year in
the month of July and as usual it’s a short month for Woodman club goers
but entertaining nonetheless, so without further ado, here goes:- On Friday the 5th we have a night off because, as always, we will be closed as the Woodman tends to move almost lock, stock and instruments to the world famous spectacular that is BROMSGROVE FOLK FESTIVAL! This will be the inaugural one at its further new venue of Bromsgrove Rugby Football Club and let’s hope it’s a whole lot better than b****y Avoncroft was! Hope to see you there. Friday the 12th we will be welcoming back Gary Edward Jones. This date is rescheduled from last December when unfortunately he had to cancel. As regular visitors to the club will know, Gary is a singer-songwriter from Liverpool, with a voice so reminiscent of Paul Simon that he regularly takes out a tour entitled “Something About Simon” in homage to his muse. His debut CD, ‘The Cabinet Maker’ was released some while ago to great acclaim. Many of you will remember from his previous visits that Gary has penned some beautiful songs so the night will be filled with his own stuff plus, maybe the occasional cover. Gary plays guitar and as far as I know this will be his second visit to the club as a solo artist having been joined by other members on his three previous ones, so something a little different tonight and I can promise you it’ll be worth waiting for. And finally on Friday the 19th we have a real treat in store because we are delighted to be welcoming back an old friend and Woodman regular, none other than Jez Lowe. Jez was last with us in May’19 - 5 years ago, can you believe it?? A prolific songwriter, gifted musician on several things with strings and a sartorial star of the stripy jumper/T-shirt, so sit back and enjoy a long overdue visit from one of finest performers from the North East and indeed one of the most well respected on the UK folk scene. That will be all folks so enjoy the summer break and we’ll see you all again when you roll up in your droves to renew your memberships on September the 13th!
