Well, here we are again folkmates, almost at the end of our opening month
of the year, just one Friday left and it’s been pretty good so far I’m
sure you’ll agree …. Our final Friday in January, the 31st will be another one of our superb Singers Nights so don’t be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a maximum of 16 slots. Alternatively, just come and enjoy the talent on display. A great night is guaranteed! REMEMBER 8.00pm START So on to February then and on Friday the 7th we’ll be kicking off the month with a new name for us - West Midlands-based Andy Richards Band are a captivating live act making their Woodman debut. Driven by Richards' finger-picked, rhythmical guitar style and rich vocal tones, his melodic open-hearted songs are original but timeless, taking cues from western folk-pop legends. Together the trio entwine acoustic and electric elements with percussive rhythm that sways and captivates. They released a new EP ‘Night That Has No End’ in February 2024, an enticement of earworms that draws from local folk stories, social observation and sentimental retrospection welcome on any playlist. Next on to the 14th and tonight we have the return of one of the club’s old faithful stalwarts, namely Pete Kelly. As I’ve said before, you all know Pete, everybody knows Pete, he’s world famous from Tipton to Arizona and even in Gornal Wood or so they say. He might even bring along his pony, (although possibly not after the erm…accident last time)! Pete has been delighting audiences both at the club, in other local venues and indeed further afield for many years now with his relaxed, easy style and long may he continue. A superb guitarist, a gifted songwriter, a friend and a long-time supporter of the club and all-round good egg. Welcome back Pete! Then on the 21st we are delighted to welcome back our good friends and club regulars Paul Walker & Karen Pfeiffer. Last with us in October 2022 when as many of you will remember, they put on a marvellous show. For the benefit of those of you who’ve not seen them before, Paul & Karen both have their individual styles which combine beautifully and, together with their light-hearted banter, they provide a truly memorable experience. Karen adds alto-recorder, tin whistle and percussive instruments to Paul’s skilful guitar playing. They have now been performing together for many years at festivals and folk clubs all over the UK and Europe, and in their luggage they will proudly bring along their catalogue of 4 CD’s to date. Welcome back to the Woodman guys! This replaces the previously scheduled Kim Lowings booking which has been postponed to July 11th (Sheila’s birthday as it happens!) Our final Friday in January, the 28th, will be another one of our superb Singers Nights so don’t be disappointed, these singers nights are normally over-subscribed so do please contact Debby or Derry on 01384 560462 to ensure you get a floor spot, we have a maximum of 16 slots. Alternatively, just come and enjoy the talent on display. A great night is guaranteed! REMEMBER 8.00pm START. And finally of course February marks the club’s birthday, 54 this year and still going strong despite all that’s been thrown at us during the last few years. So, here’s to the next 50!! Anyway, that’s all for now so… Cheers…..and enjoy yourselves, Rob x |
