Moving swiftly along we’ve almost arrived at the merry month of March ‘roaring in like a lion and out like a lamb’, we hope…or summat like that anyway. And just like the last couple of months we have a packed programme of delights to inform you of starting on…… …Friday 7th, which will see the very welcome return of two delightful songstresses in the form of Union Jill. Can you believe it….it was back in 2017 when Helen Turner and Sharon Winfield, better known to us as Union Jill, were last on at the club. If you were there, you'll remember it as a super night of well-crafted, self-penned songs, superbly complemented by fine musicianship and haunting harmonies from the two Yorkshire lasses. We said at the time that they'd be back…well OK it's taken a while, but here they are, ready to sing their hearts out for you lucky Woodman people. Great stuff! Then on the 14th once again we are delighted to welcome back a pair of very popular previous guests namely Vicki Swan and Jonny Dyer. Vicki and Jonny provide us with a quirky mix of songs, tunes and some quaintly odd instruments! Their performances showcase new interpretations of old songs alongside original self-penned tunes and new contemporary songs that are entirely at home in the tradition. Be entranced by the haunting nyckelharpa, amazed at the cow horn, (one of the worlds earliest communication devices), and meet some of the bagpipes that didn’t come from Scotland. Their evenings are packed with toe tapping tunes and songs of love, death, trains and dressing up, (not always at the same time), all presented with sparkling gentle humour, lots of smiles and skillful musicianship. A fun musical spectacular is guaranteed! Which brings us to the 21st when once again we are delighted to welcome back a pair of very popular previous guests namely Plumhall. Last with us in April 2023, Plumhall, (Michelle Plum and Nick B Hall) are an electrifying duo from Yorkshire whose award-winning original songs are earning them well deserved plaudits from the likes of Miles Hunt (The Wonder Stuff), and Phil Beer & Steve Knightley (Show of Hands). Plumhall pack a punch with powerful acoustic (occasional electric) guitar and luscious harmony-driven textures of original contemporary folk rock. Michelle and Nick were thrilled to have been invited to perform at The London Palladium with the legendary Al Stewart. They have also written music for, and appeared in, a major British cinematic release called "The Runaways", starring Mark Addy, Tara Fitzgerald & BAFTA winner Mollie Windsor. They have already proved that they are naturals for the Woodman! Then finally, Friday 28th will be another of our legendary Singers Nights. You must know the drill by now but as a memory jogger suffice to say get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited Alternatively to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry - contact details are on the home page. See the reminder below…. ** PLEASE NOTE: Singers nights now begin at 8.00pm until further notice ** Well, that’s it then, April next month so in the inimitable words of a certain Mr. John Richards of this parish ‘Bring on the Spring’…… Cheers folks, Rob x |
