Well hello again folkers, and it's now official, the festival season has
just begun for another year. If you’re not venturing out with your
rucksack, tent and pegs just yet, the Woodman has another month of
marvelous music, merrymaking and mirth to present to you, and it’s a 5
week month too so we’ll begin with……. ….Friday 2nd which will be yet another of our marvelous Singers Nights. You know the rules so make sure that you get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited However, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry either by phone or email - contact details are on the home page. ** PLEASE NOTE: Singers nights now begin at 8.00pm until further notice ** Then on Friday 9th we will be taking great pleasure in welcoming back The Lost Trades. When we last saw them they were a trio of Wiltshire based singer songwriters (Jamie R Hawkins, Phil Cooper and Tamsin Quin), however Tamsin has since left the band in order to pursue her love of woodworking. But worry not because they have now enlisted the wonderful talent that is Jess Vincent into the Lost Trades fold. With three albums already under her belt, some of you may already be aware of Jess’s quality, and will understand why they’re so excited to be adding her wonderful songwriting and brilliantly distinctive voice to the mix. Performing both collectively and individually penned songs, The Lost Trades tell carefully crafted stories using an array of stringed instruments and light percussion, all lovingly stitched together with soaring vocal harmonies. This will be their third visit to the club after a triumphant night back in April ’23 and no doubt they will have their album, “The Bird, The Book & The Barrel” on sale for you to take a little bit of them home with you. Moving on to the 16th our old friend Steve Tilston steps up to perform for us. Very much a club regular and last with us in October 2022, Steve is of course one of the premier names on the UK folk circuit and an international artiste too, He is a master of his instruments, primarily guitar but occasionally with other stringed variations too, as well as being a marvelous songwriter. He has released numerous CD’s over a long and illustrious career and we are proud to welcome him back to the club. Then on the 23rd we present Christopher Crompton & Julia Disney, two of our finest local singer/songwriters, both extremely well known to Woodman audiences who have now teamed up to form this powerhouse duo! What's not to like? Julia has been coming to the Woodman for more years than I care to remember and has performed with us in many different guises over the years, most recently with her own band, Catch the Rain and of course as a member of John Richards's band. Christopher too is very well known on the local folk scene and beyond as an accomplished writer and performer, and is of course founder of The Next Level folk club in Stourbridge...well done that man! I've not seen them as a duo before myself so this will be an interesting night, but guaranteed to be well up to Woodman standards. And our final night in the merry month of May will be the 30th when yet again we will be presenting another of our marvelous Singers Nights. You know the rules so make sure that you get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited However, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry either by phone or email - contact details are on the home page. Well, whaddya know, summer is a’comin’ in, it’s June next month!! But for now that’s yer lot so from me it’s… Cheers, Rob x |
