Hi folks, and before you know it, here we are, halfway through the year in
the month of July and as usual it’s a short month for Woodman club goers
but entertaining nonetheless, so we have 3 guest nights and no Singers’
Night until September, so without further ado, here goes:- On Friday the 4th we shall be featuring Tin Giants. This will be the second appearance for this band who debuted for us in July of 2023. Tin Giants are a 6 piece progressive folk-rock band with roots in Anglo-European and Celtic traditions…or so their website tells me. They consist of Bryan Causton on various stringed instruments and keyboards, Penni McLaren walker also on various instruments and lead vocals, Duncan moss on mainly blowy things but with keyboard and Hurdy-Gurdy thrown in for good measure, John Campbell Armer on guitar and bass, Fran Broady playing violin and harp and finally Martin Lindridge mainly on percussion. They all share the vocals so I think we can expect a rousing night and take great delight in welcoming them back to the Woodman. Then on Friday the 11th we have another artist making his Woodman debut tonight, namely Bob Wood. Bob hails from Scotland but now lives in London. An engaging solo singer, he’s known also as a nifty finger-style guitarist who performs with an easy-going sense of humour. Adopting a range of open tunings on guitar, his playing and song interpretations have been described as displaying sensitivity, technique and lightness of touch. He has made two albums (When the Moon Sits Fat on a Scudding Cloud and After the Swithering) which national folk magazines have reviewed as delightful, haunting, reflective and exquisite. A seasoned and experienced performer, Bob has appeared at countless clubs and festivals; he has played on the albums of various others and has featured on many radio programmes. He has also hosted various guitar workshops, focusing on alternative guitar tunings and song accompaniment. Bob's repertoire nowadays contains an array of both contemporary and traditional songs as well as a smattering of pipe, harp and other tunes on guitar. And finally on Friday the 18th we are delighted to once again be welcoming back an old friend and Woodman regular, none other than Jez Lowe. His visits to the club are fairly frequent and in fact he's already reached double figures from the start of this century! Jez was last with us exactly a year ago, and put on a wonderful show as he always does. A prolific songwriter, gifted musician on several things with strings and a sartorial star of the stripy jumper/T-shirt, so sit back and enjoy another visit from one of finest performers from the North East and indeed one of the most well respected on the UK folk scene. That will be all folks so enjoy the summer break and we’ll see you all again when you roll up in your droves to renew your memberships on September the 19th! Till then, Cheers and have a good break…… Rob x |
