Hello Folketeers! Derry here: On Friday, the 3rd of October, we welcome the return of a much-loved friend and highly respected singer/songwriter, Gary Edward Jones, who hails from the world-famous city of Liverpool. Gary has a beautiful singing style that has often been compared with the legend that is Paul Simon. Stack that on top of a melodical, free flowing fingerstyle guitar-pick and then deliver it with a laid-back, but quick and humorous Liverpool wit and you are on to a winner! Gary plays first-rate guitar and I can tell you that tonight he is joined by the excellent Skeet Williams. Skeet has appeared with Gary before at the Woodman, and let me tell you it was amazing! Skeet is an outstanding guitarist of some considerable skill. Gary and Skeet are the consummate professionals, but watch out, they do like a laugh! Then, on the 10th of October at 20:00 hrs we have another Wonderful Woodman Singers Night. Yes folkies, dust off those guitars, bodhrans, keyboards, cajons, violins, whistles, accordion’s, poems, stories, and yes, even banjos, again! Remember; yearly membership continues, (September – July). Join up for only Six pounds to enjoy all the fun and get a reward of two pounds discount on guest nights and one pound discount on singers nights. What a bargain! Then, on the 17th of October at 20:30 hrs, we have the incredible Lost Notes. Perennially popular, home grown, (well, Brummagem), rootsy band that never fails to ‘let the good times roll’! This’ll be their sixth visit and if we’re to believe their website, “The Lost Notes are a five-piece band from Moseley, Birmingham, where politics, drunkenness and glee abound. It makes for a great night out.” Expect a fusion of several different styles all delivered in a very accomplished performance from excellent musicians with stunning harmony vocals. Extend a warm Woodman return welcome for Ben, Oli, Lucy, Silas, and Max……. The Lost Notes. On the 24th of October, at 20:30 hrs, we have one of this country’s seminal entertainers: Mr Anthony John Clarke. An all-time favourite at the Woodman, AJ, as he is affectionately known to us all, is the numero uno troubadour. He is so good, he cannot be described using just one language! No doubt accompanied by his glamorous musical partner and on-stage nemesis, Julia Porter, well, you’ll see what I mean! It's the umpteenth time that AJ has graced our stage, treating us to his finely honed act, now very much a mix of comedy and music, featuring his enormous catalogue of self-penned songs. Well, what can you say about AJC? Almost a club Patron, he’s only missed a couple of years since the beginning of the century!! Now performing regularly with Julia and I’d be very surprised if they’re not ably assisted here and there by one Derry Jones, musician of this parish, on bass! AJ loves coming to the club, we love having him to entertain us so it’s perfect symmetry. Seriously, he really is an excellent singer/songwriter, something of a raconteur and an all-round nice fella. You’ve all seen him many times before but he never fails to deliver a superb nights entertainment so sit back and enjoy. Yes, Folketeers, it’s a five-week month so guess what? On the 31st October at 20:00hrs, It’s another Wonderful Woodman Singers’ Night! You definitely need to get there early to book your spot as Singers' Nights are very popular and slots are limited Alternatively, to be sure, it would be best to book a spot in advance by contacting Debby & Derry - contact details are on the home page. Please note that if you have pre-booked a spot you need to be at the club before 20:00 hrs to confirm, or the slot may be re-allocated. Just a quick reminder: Both the bar, door and membership are cash only. You might also like: Bob & Des do Radio!
