Hello Folketeers!

Derry here:

On Friday the 5th of December we welcome the return of a much-loved folk band, Kim Lowings & The Greenwood. Whenever we invite Kim and the lads they never fail to put on a brilliant night for us. They have been regular guests at the club for several years now and their musicianship, together with Kim’s vocals and their general charisma and stage presence have simply gone through the roof over the last few years. Their growing collection of CD’s will no doubt be on sale at the show should you want to take a little of them home with you. Another unmissable night in store!

Then, on Friday the 12th of December, at 20:00 hrs, we have the spectacular Woodman Christmas Extravaganza! Yes folks it's the Woodman's end-of-year celebrations featuring the Marvellous Mad Jocks & Englishmen!

We will once again be featuring a Christmas themed evening brought to us by Mad Jocks & Englishmen. This will start at 8:00pm and not the usual 8:30pm as we have such a lot to pack in! Exactly one year ago we featured this wonderful local trio, as indeed we had done exactly a year before that, and the year before that, and...the year before...oh never mind! I think I'm beginning to see a pattern emerging here! Anyway, we’ll gloss over that and simply say that this will be the eighth and last appearance of the irrepressible MJ&E to the club having been regulars since their triumphant debut in November 2016. The band are legendary around the folk clubs and festivals of Olde England and beyond, having been recording and performing for over 50 years, so they know a thing or two about putting on a good show.

The three original members that form the band are George Gallagher (vocals and guitar), Nick Weston (banjo) and Andy Brownlie (vocals, guitar and mandolin) and the music, though folk based, is now much more eclectic and the typical Jocks set will incorporate bluegrass, folk, contemporary, and a generous smattering of comedy. Oh yes, there will be a fantastically frivolous pantomime too. You won’t be disappointed. I must admit, I'd be rather surprised if once again our own Mr Mixer - Derry Jones - makes an appearance with them too in the Bass.

This is only one of two gigs that The Mad Jocks & Englishmen are ever going to do, so don't miss your last chance to see this folk phenomenon. It will be the end of an era!
